Post Druid Magic

As Christianity advanced during the first century emotion magic disappeared from view leaving only life based recipe magic which for a time was more tolerated by Christianity. What was left of emotion magic went underground and became witchcraft. In recipe magic ritual items no longer gained their power via triggered emotional generation but instead were thought to have inherent powers. Correspondences became "characteristics" (charaktêres) and drawn magical signs started to become a big thing.
While Christian priests still practice recipe based life magic as evidenced by today's Catholic rituals (sacraments), those rituals are fixed and unchanging. The remaining ancient traditions of life based recipe magic entered the public realm and lasted for about another 800 years before they too were forced underground. They only started to be noticed again as occult practices after 1500 with the arrival of the printing press.
